Officials Investigate Suspicious School Fire

Investigators say someone may have broken through the 2nd floor and started the fire. They consider the incident suspicious and continue to investigate.

Police are investigating a fire at a vacant South Jersey Elementary School.  

It happened at the Central Elementary School on 2300 Merchantville Avenue in Pennsauken. The fire broke out in the building’s auditorium. Firefighters arrived at the scene and controlled the blaze. No one was hurt.

The school has been abandoned for six years and was set for demolition in about a week, according to officials.

Investigators say someone may have broken through the 2nd floor and started the fire. They consider the incident suspicious and continue to investigate.
