Suspect Shot, Cop Injured in Overnight Chase

Authorities say plain-clothed officers were chasing the victim in South Philadelphia.

A suspect is in the hospital and an officer suffered minor injures following a police chase that gave way to gunfire early Thursday morning, according to Philadelphia police.

Police say that they were forced to open fire on a suspect around 3 a.m. on the 2600 block of South Warnock Street in South Philadelphia.

The plain-clothed officers shot a 29-year-old man, although the reason for the shooting is unknown at this time.

The victim was rushed to Jefferson Hospital. His condition is unknown.

The injured officer was also taken to the hospital where he is being treated for minor injures.

The incident is under investigation.
