Officer Shoots Attempted Robbery Suspect

Police say a man, attempting to rob two different convenience stores was shot, after pulling a gun on police

Philadelphia Police say they received a call just before 1 a.m. on Thursday morning, that a man with a gun was attempting to rob the 7-Eleven on the 5300 block of Harbison Avenue.

The store clerk was the one who called 9-1-1 after running out the back of the store, police said.

The suspect left without taking anything, and investigators say he made his way across the street to the Pantry Mart on the 5300 block of Torresdale Avenue and tried to rob that store.

That robbery attempt also failed, according to police, when officers were flagged down by a Pantry Mart employee, who told police what had happened and which direction the suspect started running.

Officers say after chasing the suspect down, he turned and pointed his gun at police. One officer fired at the suspect, he collapsed and dropped his weapon, according to Chief Inspector Scott Small, Philadelphia Police.

Investigators say eight bags of marijuana were also confiscated from the scene.

The suspect is in critical condition at Aria Torresdale Hospital.
