A police officer is in the hospital after investigators say she was struck by a woman driving under the influence.

It happened Tuesday in North Philadelphia around 8:20 p.m. Police say an officer was traveling westbound on 2100 West Lehigh Avenue in response to an alarm. Suddenly a car going eastbound on Lehigh made a sharp left trying to get into a parking lot, striking the police vehicle, according to investigators.

The officer suffered head, neck, back and knee pain in the crash. She was taken to Temple University Hospital. While she is conscious, police say her condition is unknown.

Police say the driver responsible for striking the officer's vehicle is a 44-year-old woman. She was arrested and charged with driving under the influence.
