Officer Injured During Midnight Run for Peace

The officer is in critical condition at Hahnemann Hospital

An off-duty police officer from the 35th District was hurt Friday night during the Midnight Run for Peace in North Philadelphia.

Officer Milan Merke was riding a motorcycle when he was hit by a car at Broad and Master Streets, authorities said.

The driver stayed on the scene. There is no word on whether charges have been filed.

Officer Merke was taken to Hahnemann Hospital, where he's in critical condition.

We're just asking that you continue to keep Milan and my family in your prayers," the officer's mother, Tonya Merke, told NBC10. "Because prayer changes things."

Dozens of officers on motorcycles signed up to participate in the Midnight Run for Peace. The goal of the event is to patrol through North Philadelphia, to talk to people and gather information on crimes.
