Officer Shoots Self During Gun Training

The veteran officer was going through an annual training exercise

A police officer shot himself in the foot at a police gun range in Montgomery County, Pa.

Sergeant Stephen Gillen shot himself when he was taking his gun out of his holster,  according to Mark Toomey, Chief of Police for Hatfield Township.

Gillen was at the Hatfield Police Pistol Range on County Line Road, going through annual firearms training.

The sergeant, who has been with the Upper Gwynedd police force for 23 years, was being supervised at the time by two certified range instructors.

Gillen was taken to Abington hospital for treatment.
