Officer Assaulted During Traffic Stop

Philadelphia Police say the man, who was armed with a gun, attempted to run from the scene, but he was quickly tracked down and arrested

Philadelphia Police say an officer was assaulted during a traffic stop at Linton and Mascher Streets in the Olney section of the city.

Authorities say as the officer was walking up to the car, a passenger in that vehicle jumped out and hit the officer with his fist. The man was also armed with a gun, police said. He attempted to run from the scene, but he was quickly tracked down and arrested.

The officer suffered lacerations to this mouth, face, and hand, police said.

The suspect hasn't yet been identified.
