Off-Duty Philadelphia Police Recruit Injured in Motorcycle Crash

An off-duty police recruit was injured in a crash less than 24 hours after an off-duty Philly police sergeant was killed in an accident.

The 24-year-old recruit was riding a motorcycle on the 1200 block of Girard Avenue at 6:41 p.m. when he was side-swiped by another vehicle, police said.

The man struck his leg on a light pole and suffered a large cut. He was taken to Hahnemann Hospital where he is currently in stable condition.

The accident follows the death of Philadelphia Police Sergeant Rafael Ali who died after his pickup truck crashed into a tree in the Nicetown section of the city late Saturday night.
