On Monday Adrienne Armenia of Mays Landing was driving her 2-year-old son Anthony Alonso to the doctor’s office when she claims Anthony suddenly suffered a seizure.  Armenia pulled to the side of the road of Ocean Heights Avenue at Swift Drive in the Bargaintown section of Egg Harbor Township where she called for help.

Pleasantville Police Captain Jose Ruiz, who was off-duty at the time, arrived at the scene and began performing CPR on the child. Egg Harbor Township Police Officers Curt Ware and Joseph Griffiths arrived soon after. Officer Ware quickly joined Captain Ruiz in performing CPR until Anthony began to breathe on his own. They stayed with the boy and his mother until an ambulance arrived.

“Through my training and the many years at the police department I kept my composure and knew what I had to do,” said Captain Ruiz. “My main concern was just making sure that I did what I could to try to save the child.”

“I’m truly blessed for everyone who was there especially the officers,” said Adrienne. “Thank you so much and thank you for keeping my son safe.”
