Ocean City to Vote on BYOB Petition Tonight

City Council to vote whether restaurant patrons should be allowed to bring their own wine or beer to have with a meal

Officials in an Ocean City resort community where alcohol sales have been banned for decades will vote Thursday night on whether restaurant patrons should be allowed to bring their own wine or beer to have with a meal.

The Ocean City Council, which last year opposed a similar measure, is due to vote at 7 p.m. on an ordinance that would allow “Bring Your Own Bottle” drinking in restaurants - except for those on the boardwalk.

If City Council approves the ordinance, BYOB would become law in Ocean City.

If City Council votes "no" on the ordinance, the question will be included on the ballot in the May 8 election as a binding question.

City Council members have expressed universal opposition to the idea. In January 2011, Council unanimously passed a nonbinding "resolution opposing any effort to remove the prohibition of consuming alcoholic beverages in restaurants, cafes or food establishments," reports the Patch.
