Occupy Del. Protesters Turn Down Permit, Move to Unapproved Parks

Gov. Jack Markell says the state made a reasonable offer to Occupy Delaware, but the protesters turned them down

A spokesman for Delaware Gov. Jack Markell says the state made a reasonable offer to Occupy Delaware protesters, who have turned down a permit at Brandywine Park.

Markell spokesman Brian Selander says the state's offer respected the group's right to be heard, but Occupy Delaware declined.

Occupy Delaware member Dana Garrett says that's because too many restrictions have been placed on the use of nearby Brandywine Park.

Garrett says the permit for Brandywine Park did not allow protesters to carry signs. Instead, they plan to move Sunday from H. Fletcher Brown Park to Spencer Plaza and Freedom Plaza, which are across the street from each other.

Protester Dan Halprin says Brandywine was also too far from downtown businesses and lacked visibility while the two new sites are more centrally located.
