Parts of Pa. Tie New York on Record Low Temperatures

A northwest Pennsylvania city tied a record low temperature but avoided the heavy, lake-effect snow that deluged Western New York.

The National Weather Service says the temperature in Erie dropped to 14 degrees just after 7 a.m. Tuesday, matching a mark set for that day in 1959.

Forecasters say a narrower than expected snow band developing off Lake Erie left Erie with an accumulation of just 0.7 inches.

They had predicted up to nearly two feet of snow.

The National Weather Service says the region could see 2 to 4 inches of snow Wednesday and an additional 2 to 4 inches on Thursday.
