Northeast Philly Residents Awake to Find Car Windows Smashed, Items Stolen

Police are investigating after windows were smashed on more than a dozen cars on a Northeast Philadelphia block overnight.

Residents of Tyson Avenue between Summerdale and Algon, in the Castor neighborhood, awoke Sunday morning to find shattered glass littering their street. The thieves, who broke into at least 17 vehicles on the block, smashed side windows and emptied out consoles in several cars, according to neighbors.

"Whatever they could reach for, they got," said Christina Costobile, one of the victims. "I guess they did it quick and just got out of here. I mean, you do it right in front of somebody's house? It don't make sense to me."

Hovlaine Marcellus told NBC10 the thieves didn't steal anything from her vehicle but they still damaged it.

"I have to fix the window," Marcellus said. "As a college student it takes out of my pocket and work and stuff like that. Some people don't care but you know, it is what it is."

People were outside on the block Sunday afternoon cleaning up broken glass left behind on the pavement and in their cars. Police were taking statements and investigating.
