N. Philly Street Evacuated After Gas Leak

Sink hole ruptures 6 inch gas main under street

A North Philadelphia street was evacuated after a sink hole opened up and ruptured a gas line.

The street collapsed along the 3000 block of N. 5th Street around 6 p.m., Philadelphia fire officials said.

Residents were asked to leave their homes after a strong odor of natural gas was detected. Crews from Philadelphia Gas Works are on the scene repairing the leak.

No one was hurt in the collapse.
