Gunman Shoots Philadelphia Man Picking Up Girlfriend on Christmas

A man picking up his girlfriend Christmas night dove under a car after a gunman opened fire on him.

The shooting happened around 5:45 p.m. at N 17th and W Pike streets in the Nicetown section of North Philadelphia as the victim returned to his car with his girlfriend.

The gunman fired six shots, said Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small. Three bullets struck the unidentified 22-year-old victim leaving him in critical condition.

Officers rushed the man to Temple University Hospital where his condition was upgraded to stable, said Small.

The man rolled under his car to protect himself.

"He was actually hiding under his car ... when police arrived," said Small.

The victim’s girlfriend wasn’t injured.

Police gave no motive for the shooting and no arrests were immediately made.
