Norfolk Southern and the Federal Railroad Administration were continuing to investigate how 17 freight cars derailed, many of them carrying brand new cars and vans.
The Norfolk Southern train was eastbound from Fostoria, Ohio, to Wilmington, Delaware when it derailed in Altoona about 9:45 a.m. Saturday. The train had 107 loaded cars and nine of the 17 that derailed overturned - all of which were hauling automobiles.
The crash shut down three parallel train tracks through the city about 85 miles east of Pittsburgh, though all lines had reopened by Sunday evening.
Nobody was injured in the crash.
Norfolk Southern must submit results of its investigation to the federal agency by the end of next month.
