NoLibs Woman Shot in Head After Answering Door

A woman is recovering after police say she was assaulted and then shot by an unknown gunman in the Northern Liberties section of the city.

The victim, identified as 26-year-old Anaya Guzman, was inside her home on the 100 block of West Girard Avenue around 7:45 p.m. when she heard a knock at her door. When she answered, police say an unidentified man struck her in the head and then forced her up the stairs. Once they reached the top, the suspect allegedly shot her in the head and then fled the scene.

Guzman was found bleeding and slumped over in the stairwell by a passerby. She was taken to Hahnemann Hospital where she is in critical but stable condition. Guzman told police that she did not know the identity of her attacker. According to Guzman's relative Janina Rodriguez, the suspect stole money from her.

"She says he did rob her," Rodriguez said. "He took her money. I don't think he took her dog but I don't know where he is right now. We're looking for the dog."

Police have not yet revealed a description of the suspect. They continue to investigate.
