No Mail Delivery in Security Zone During Pope Francis' Visit

Rain and snow may not stop postal carriers from delivering mail, but Pope Francis will.

The United States Postal Service is suspending mail collection and delivery in eight Philadelphia postal codes on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 26-27 during the papal visit. Officials cite the security perimeter being set up by the U.S. Secret Service as the reason for the stoppage.

The affected areas are the Philadelphia Main Office (postal codes 19102, 19103 and 19104); William Penn Delivery Annex (postal codes 19106 and 19107); Fairmount Station (postal code 19130); and Spring Garden Station (postal codes 19122 and 19123).

Mail delivery will be completed in Center City by 1 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 25. The day before, collection mailboxes in the security zone will be locked or removed, officials said.

Regular mail service is expected to resume on Monday, Sept. 28.
