No Charges to be Filed in Boy's Gun Death

Boy died after accidentally shooting himself in the forehead with his father's gun

Criminal charges will not be filed in the heartbreaking case of a young boy shot while playing inside his Royersford home.

Michael Desantis, 4, died after shooting himself in the forehead last Wednesday afternoon, police say.

The boy was playing a game of cops and robbers with his 6-year-old brother inside Desantis' home along the 300 block of Chestnut Street when grabbed a gun from his parents' bedroom, police say.

Desantis picked up the .44-caliber Glock 22 while placing it to his forehead, accidentally triggered the handgun, police say.

He was rushed to Pottstown Memorial Hospital, but died before being transferred to the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.

The gun, owned by his father, apparently wasn't kept inside the home until just last week, officials say. The father was in the process of selling the gun and kept it in a box inside the couples' top dresser drawer, officials say.

Sources tell NBC Philadelphia the boy was used to playing with toy guns.

A memorial to the boy is continuing to grow on the porch of the family's home.
