No Charges For Elementary School Principal

Dennis Reitano will not be charged for accusations against him

An investigation into a Delaware County school principal is now closed.

The Ridley Park Police Department said Wednesday that no charges will be filed against St. Madeline-St. Rose Elementary School principal, Dennis Reitano. The decision came after an investigation concluded he did not take part in illegal behavior or conduct.

Reitano was put on leave "after concerns were raised" Tuesday. Parents of students at the school were given no other details.

One fact was made very clear by school administrators, though: The allegations against Reitano were not sexual in nature.

The suspension came after several students voiced concerns during a “safe environment” lesson, Rev. Louis P. Bellopede told parents in a letter home.

“It teaches young people about healthy interactions between adults,” Donna Farrell--of the Philadelphia Archdiocese--said about the class that sparked the allegations.

Bellopede said the school reported the incident to Child Hotline and authorities investigated the accusations. School administrators won’t say, however, what the accusations were.

Authorities at the Child Hotline told NBC Philadelphia that the allegations against Reitano were not sexual abuse allegations, but about “not respecting personal boundaries.” They, too, would not elaborate.

NBC Philadelphia was unable to reach Reitano for comment.
