Philadelphia mother Nia Ali won the silver medal in the 100-meter hurdles Wednesday night, finishing with a time of 12.59 seconds.
Ali was part of an American sweep of the final. Brianna Rollins took home gold with a time of 12.48 while Kristi Castlin took the bronze with a time of 12.61.
Ali is a graduate of West Philly Catholic. Her mother Melita Johnson and son Titus watched from the stands during the race. Ali's longtime coach Daryl Murphy also watched the race from Philly and was brought to tears when she took home the silver medal.
"She worked hard, she earned it and she deserves it and she made everybody here in Philly proud," Murphy said.

Neptune, New Jersey native and Temple University runner Ajee' Wilson already had a big day Wednesday as she finished second in her Women's 800-Meter heat with a season's best time of 1:59.44 to advance to Thursday's semifinals.
On Tuesday, Manalapan Township's Robbie Andrews also advanced Tuesday morning in the Men's 1,500-Meters with a time of 3:46.97. The semifinals are set for Thursday night.

Also Tuesday, New Jersey hurdlers Ronnie Ash and Jeff Porter ran in the Men's 110-meter hurdles Tuesday night -- Ash even advanced to the final with a time of 13.36 -- and New Jersey teen Sydney McLaughlin failed to make the final in the Women's 400-meter hurdles.
