Federal prosecutors say a Newark man involved in armed robberies at nearly a dozen businesses during a crime spree in northern New Jersey has been sentenced to 20 years in prison.
Christopher Mojica will also have to pay restitution, though that amount has not been determined.
The 24-year-old Newark man had pleaded guilty to charges of conspiracy, robbery and discharging a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence. Once his prison term is completed, he will have to serve five years of supervised release.
Prosecutors say the crime spree occurred from September 2012 to April 2013, when Mojica and his conspirators robbed several pharmacies and other businesses at gunpoint. Most of the robberies occurred in Newark, and the robbers made off with cash, prescription drugs, jewelry and other items.
