Cops Search for Attempted Sex Assault Suspect

Newark Police need the public’s help to find a man they say attacked a woman over the weekend

Police in Delaware asked for the public’s help Thursday to find the man who they say choked and tried to rape a woman over the weekend.

An arrested warrant was issued for 41-year-old Marvin Holmes. He is charged with attempted rape and choking, Newark Police said.

Holmes allegedly tried to sexually assault a 30-year-old woman Sunday around 9 p.m. in a field near the James F. Hall Trail in Phillips Park, cops said.

The victim reportedly had become disoriented after walking from her home to the 7-11 on Elkton Road and the suspect offered to help her home, police said.

While walking down Hall Trail the woman became suspicious of Holmes and tried to run away but he allegedly grabbed her, knocked her to the ground and ripped her clothing, police said.

The victim fought off the suspect and ran to a nearby home where she called for help, police said.

After some investigation police zeroed in on Holmes who frequents homes and businesses along Elkton Road where he attempts to sell perfume and other items on the street, authorities said.

Holmes is known to use nicknames like “Mar,” “Nico” and “Rick.” Police say that he possibly cut his hair and released photos of how he looks with long and short hair.

A $1,000 reward was offered for Holmes capture, police said.

Anyone with information on Holmes or his whereabouts should contact Newark Police at 302-366-711, text 302NPD and a tip to TIP411, submit a tip online or call 9-1-1.
