Alleged DUI Driver Crashes Into House

Airborne car crashes into Newark, Del. home

A homeowner got quite the scare early Thursday when an alleged DUI driver crashed into a Newark, Del. house.

The crash happened around 1 a.m., according to Newark Police.

A cop clocked a car going 96 mph northbound on Papermill Road near Cook Way, police said.

The posted speed limit is 45 mph.

The officer gave chase but, due to the alleged speeder’s high rate of speed, the cop lost him, police said.

The officer eventually realized that the car had veered off Paper Mill Road at Winterthur Lane -- narrowly missing a utility pole, jumping the curb, striking a fence and going airborne before crashing into the corner of a home, authorities said.

Police approached the car to find the driver alone in the car and allegedly intoxicated. Neither the driver nor anyone in the home was hurt.

The driver wasn’t identified -- charges including DUI are pending, police said.
