New Royal Caribbean Ship Wants to Dock in NJ

Bayonne's cruise ship terminal may be getting a new visitor.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has advanced a plan to allow Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines to redevelop part of the Cape Liberty Cruise Port.

It's aimed at accommodating Royal Caribbean's new Quantum of the Seas cruise ship scheduled to debut next year.

The Port Authority's board of commissioners is set to vote on the plan later Wednesday.

Port Commerce director Richard Larrabee says the agency would lose about $1 million a year in rent at the cruise port.

But he says that will be more than offset by increased passenger and parking revenue tied to the new ship.

The Quantum of the Seas can hold 4,180 passengers, making it one of the world's largest cruise ships.
