New Jersey Workers Accused of Filing False Timesheets

Two municipal workers in a northern New Jersey town stand accused of submitting false timesheets.

Abraham Garcia and Walter Somick, who work the North Bergen Parks and Recreation Department, each face charges of theft by deception and tampering with public records or information. Both could face up to five years in prison if convicted on the charges.

Garcia, a 56-year-old North Bergen resident, serves as a recreational aide. State authorities say he consistently filed timesheets that claimed he was working when authorities say he actually was home, socializing or doing other things not related to his jib.

Somick is a union electrician who also works as a recreational aide. The 46-year-old Wayne resident allegedly filed timesheets that showed he was working when he actually was home, handling personal matters.
