N.J. Man Gets 30 Months After Timeshare Scam

A Pleasantville man has been sentenced to 30 months in prison for his role in a scheme to defraud owners of timeshare properties.

Forty-two-year-old Joseph Saxon pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud.

Saxon was part of Vacation Ownership Group, a company that offered consulting services to timeshare owners.

Saxon allegedly called customers pretending to be working for a bank and persuaded them to send money. For example, he told one customer the bank wanted to settle their timeshare mortgage for a fraction of the price, which the customer then paid.

Four people including co-owner Adam Lacerda were convicted in 2013, and more than a dozen people charged in the scheme have pleaded guilty.

Lacerda was sentenced to 27 years in prison in June.
