New Jersey Man Gets 5 Years For Attempting to Import Heroin

A 48-year-old New Jersey man will spend more than five years in federal prison for his role in a conspiracy to import roughly a pound of heroin from India through the mail.

NJ.com reports Adolphus Nwokedi was sentenced to serve 63 months behind bars Thursday after he was convicted of conspiring to import the drugs in Newark federal court.

Prosecutors say the Middlesex County man and a co-conspirator arranged to have a package of heroin shipped from India. For $3,000, Nwokedi agreed to deliver the drugs to a Bronx man.

The heroin was intercepted by customs officers at New York's JFK International Airport on Dec. 11, 2013.

Nwokedi was arrested Jan. 2, 2014 after federal agents executed a controlled delivery of the package to his Newark business address.
