New Jersey High School Teacher Arrested in Sex Assault of Teen Student: Prosecutor

A history teacher at a shuttered New Jersey high school has been arrested in connection with a series of sexual encounters with a 17-year-old student, prosecutors say.

Fatima Grupico, 24, of Linden, is accused of having sexual relations with the boy on a number of occasions at the now-closed Cardinal McCarrick High School in South Amboy in May, according to the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office.

She was arrested on sexual assault and child endangerment charges and remains in custody while waiting for bail to be set. Attorney information wasn't immediately available.

The investigation into Grupico began when school officials contacted police, prosecutors said.

She has been unemployed since the school closed at the end of the school year. The struggling Catholic school was the 11th one in central Jersey's Diocese of Metuchen to close since 2009, according to Asbury Park Press.
