Caught on Camera: Thief Grabs Money, Drags New Jersey Gas Station Clerk

A driver asked for $10 worth of gas at a New Jersey station then drove off with $1,500, dragging the station attendant along the way.

Surveillance cameras captured the theft at the 76 gas station along Highway 36 in the Belford section of Middletown Monmouth County around 7:25 p.m. on Aug. 15.

In the video you see a four-door Toyota Corolla LE with a passenger inside pull up to the pumps. The driver then asks for $10 worth of fuel and the clerk begins pumping, said Middletown Township Police.

The man then pays the clerk but tries to grab the guy’s apron – where the attendant kept his money – with “Fuel One” written on it, said police.

The driver hit the gas while still holding onto the apron, dragging the clerk for about 35 feet before heading north on Highway 36 with the apron and the cash, said investigators.

Police asked anyone with information to contact Det. Albert Scott at 732-615-2009 or by email.
