New Jersey Doctor Avoids Prison in Bribery Scheme

Federal prosecutors say a northern New Jersey doctor will not have to serve a prison term for accepting more than $200,000 in bribes from a medical lab to send patients' blood samples to their company.

Claudio Dicovsky was ordered Monday to serve three years' probation, which includes one year of house arrest with electronic monitoring. He also was fined $75,000 and must perform 1,500 hours of community service.

Dicovsky also will forfeit more than $222,000. The 52-year-old Fort Lee resident, who had a practice based in Paterson, pleaded guilty in July 2013 to accepting bribes.

Prosecutors say 33 people — including 22 doctors — have pleaded guilty in connection with the bribery scheme.

Organizers admitted the scheme involved millions of dollars in bribes.
