New Jersey Considers Letting Judges Work Until 75

New Jersey judges may be allowed to work longer.

A state Assembly committee is planning to consider a measure Monday that would ask voters to increase the judicial retirement age to 75. Judges now must step down when they turn 70.

If lawmakers approve the measure, it would require voter approval to take effect.

The Assembly Judiciary Committee is also considering hiking the retirement age for county prosecutors and administrative law judges to 75. It's also considering a separate measure that would let retired judges be recalled for service until they turn 85.
