New Jersey Child Welfare Worker Stabbed After Security Cuts: Union

A union official says a New Jersey child welfare caseworker was stabbed in a state office three days after security was reduced there.

Authorities say 29-year-old state Child and Family Services employee Leah Coleman was stabbed shortly after 1 p.m. on Monday in a building in Camden.

Cooper University Hospital spokeswoman Lori Shaffer says she is in critical but stable condition Tuesday morning.

A woman has been arrested in the attack, but was not immediately charged or identified.

Communications Workers of America area director Hetty Rosenstein says the stabbing came just three days after state Human Service Police were reorganized and three officers were moved from the floor where the stabbing occurred.

She says the only security staff was a receptionist.
