5 Bounty Hunters Face Assault, Kidnapping Charges in New Jersey

Five bounty hunters face charges including robbery, assault and kidnapping in Camden County after an incident Wednesday night that involved a teenage boy.

Camden County Prosecutor Mary Eva Colalillo said Thursday the five went to a home along Briarhill Drive in Chesilhurst seeking a 38-year-old man wanted on drug charges.

Three of the bounty hunters allegedly chased the man by car when he fled, then assaulted -- one allegedly using a tire iron -- and robbed him. The other two allegedly stayed behind and handcuffed the 17-year-old and robbed him of cash and his cellphone.

Colalillo said only one of the suspects, Burlington Township resident Marvella Brown-Bailey, was a certified bondsperson.

Brown-Bailey works for Ms. Nancy's Bail Bonds in Mount Holly.

Owner Nancy Henry was shocked to learn of the allegations.

"She's worked for me for 14 years, she doesn't kidnap, she doesn't do anything like that," said Henry.

The five are charged with crimes including robbery, aggravated assault, kidnapping and weapons offenses. They were being held in lieu of bail ranging from $100,000 to $400,000.

Waterford Township Police also arrested Brian Williams, 32, of Burlington Township; Ralph Lemar, 34, of Philadelphia; Innish Henderson, 25, of Philadelphia; and Jovani Diaz, 25, of Philadelphia.

It wasn't known if any suspects had retained an attorney.
