Woman Severely Burned in New Jersey Apartment Fire

A woman was severely burned after she became trapped in an apartment fire that also injured eight other residents and two firefighters in Eatontown.

The fire in a third-floor unit was reported just after midnight Friday at the Garrison Apartments off Throckmorton Avenue.

The Asbury Park Press reports police say firefighters pulled the 69-year-old female tenant out of the apartment where the fire started. She sustained second- and third-degree burns throughout most of her body and was taken to the burn unit at St. Barnabas Medical Center.

A 78-year-old woman reported chest pains.

The seven other residents and two firefighters were treated for smoke inhalation.

Authorities say the fire destroyed several units and the building's roof.

The preliminary investigation indicates the cause was accidental.
