Residents in New Hope honored the firefighters who lost their lives on September 11, 2001.
A steel beam from Tower 2 of the World Trade Center arrived at the New Hope Eagle Fire Company banquet hall on Saturday during a dedication service.
The beam was presented by Brian Farrell on behalf of the Terry Farrell Firefighters Fund. The fund was started by Brian to honor the memory of his brother Terry, one of the 343 firefighters who died during the World Trade Center attack on 9/11.
“This peace of steel doesn’t represent New York, doesn’t represent 9/11 of ’01,” said Farrell. “It represents the fire service and what it means to the United States.”
Firefighters hope to open a fire museum for the Delaware Valley where the steel beam will be placed.
For now however, the beam will be displayed at the New Hope Eagle Fire Company, until the Delaware Valley Fire Museum finds a home.
“9/11 took away a lot of very, very brave people,” said Farrell. “You don’t have to look to New York to find heroes. They’re right here in New Hope. They’re right here in Pennsylvania. They’re right here among you.”
