NY Woman Killed After Kayak Overturns Near Philly

Officials say a woman from western New York state was killed over the weekend when her kayak overturned in the Delaware River in suburban Philadelphia.

The (Doylestown) Intelligencer reports that the 50-year-old woman from North Tonawanda was kayaking with relatives as part of an annual outing.

But officials said fast-moving water prevented them from stopping at Prahls Island in the Virginia Forest Recreation Area, and the woman's kayak overturned and she became stuck.

Relatives got her out of the water and performed CPR, and a motorboat helped transport the victim down to Bucks County River Country.

Officials said the woman, whose name hasn't been released, was pronounced dead at Doylestown Hospital.
