Not many people look forward to sitting in a hospital bed, but 15-year-old Finn Miller had reason to on Thursday evening.
The Haddonfield, New Jersey teen was out for what he called an intended "quick spin" alone on his Yamaha dirt bike in some woods in Mullica Hill when things took a potentially deadly turn.
Miller said he was riding a little further than he usually goes and going a bit too fast when he lost control and crashed into a tree.
"My leg smacked directly into the tree - and it flew me off the bike and I spun around and I landed on the ground," Miller told NBC10's George Spencer Friday night from that hospital bed at Cooper University Hospital.
Miller said he landed and knew immediately that his leg was broken, "I could feel my leg was bending in a way it shouldn't have been."
Miller yelled for help and even tried to use sticks as crutches as thunderstorms whipped through and darkness fell.
It was two and a half hours before the teen's grandfather and friend found him exhausted, muddied and laying in the trail bed.

The high school lacrosse player broke his femur and has a long road of recovery ahead, meaning he'll likely miss this year's season.
Miller said he's learned his lesson on this fateful ride, "Definitely ride with someone. It was unsmart of me to not ride with anyone."
Miller also suggests carrying a cell phone and making sure someone knows exactly where you are going.
