New Jersey's chief economist is leaving his job next month to take a position as a resident scholar at Ramapo College.
The state treasurer's office says Charles Steindel told other officials in April that he would be leaving the job.
He came to work for Gov. Chris Christie's office in November 2010. Christie spokesman Michael Drewniak says the governor is grateful for Steindel's service, noting his "scholarly background.''
Part of the job involves doing economic forecasting that is used to create revenue projections for the state budget. In each of the last three years, the state's income has fallen short of those expectations.
Steindel was previously a senior vice president at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.
