NJ Pastor Resigns Over Prostitution Charges

Steps down 6 months after arrest amid community uproar

The pastor of a southern New Jersey church has resigned after he was accused of loitering to engage a prostitute.

The Rev. Randy Harry sent a letter stepping down from Trinity United Methodist Church in Upper Township. Parents at the church's preschool had demanded his resignation.

Harry was arrested Nov. 11 in Millville after a police officer said he saw the 51-year-old driving in circles and letting a woman with a history of prostitution into his vehicle.

Harry, 51,  denied the charge. But he pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of disorderly conduct on the advice of his lawyer.

United Methodist Church district superintendent the Rev. Paul Maliel told The Press of Atlantic City the situation had brought a tremendous amount of stress on Harry.
