NJ Manufacturer Moves to Mexico, Laying Off 390 Workers

A medical device manufacturer is closing a plant in New Jersey and laying off 390 workers as it shifts the work to Mexico.

CareFusion Corp. says layoffs at the former Vital Signs factory in Totowa, Passaic County will begin in August and continue until the operation shuts down in December 2015.

The plant makes disposable respiratory products such as masks and hoses.

Spokesman Troy Kirkpatrick tells The Record newspaper employees will get at least four months severance, depending on their length of service.

The announcement comes six months after CareFusion, based in California, acquired Vital Signs for $500 million.
