NJ Man Sentenced to Life for Attacking Lawyer

Accused attacker get harsh sentence under "Three Strikes" law

A New Jersey man who twice attacked his defense lawyer during his carjacking trial has been sentenced to life in prison without parole.

Anthony Montgomery of Neptune was sentenced Friday under the state's ``Three Strikes'' law. He received consecutive prison terms totaling 35 years for eluding police, aggravated assault and weapons offenses.

During his trial in March, Montgomery smacked his public defender in the face when the defense attorney called him to the witness stand.

Later, the shackled defendant grabbed a microphone stand and flung it at Pagano as sheriff's officers led him out of court.

Montgomery also received concurrent terms for attempting to disarm a police officer, injuring a police dog and other offenses.

All the charges he faced stemmed from a high-speed chase from Tinton Falls to Neptune in May 2008.
