New Jersey Man Lies About Nephew Jumping Into River in Attempt to Retrieve Keys: Police

A North Jersey man is accused of misleading police by telling them his 10-year-old nephew jumped into the Hudson River and never resurfaced.

The Jersey Journal reports 19-year-old Tereek DaSilva called 911 around 2:40 a.m. Sunday and reported that his nephew jumped into the river to retrieve dropped car keys.

The Elizabeth man told Jersey City police his nephew went under a pier and never resurfaced.

After 15 minutes of searching, police questioned three women who were with DaSilva. Police say they told officers he had dropped his keys in the river and made up the story about his nephew in an attempt to get police to retrieve them.

Police say he is charged with false public alarm.

It's unclear if he has an attorney.
