NJ Man Indicted in Crash That Killed Elderly Woman

A southern New Jersey man who authorities say was driving drunk when he caused a crash that killed an elderly woman has been indicted on aggravated manslaughter charges.

Ocean County prosecutors tell the Asbury Park Press that 30-year-old Robert Cook Jr., of Point Pleasant, also faces vehicular homicide charges in the indictment handed up last week by a county grand jury. He faces 40 years in prison if convicted on both counts.

Authorities have said Cook was driving in Brick when his car veered into oncoming traffic and collided with another vehicle in March 2013.

Jane Eager, an 80-year-old Brick resident who was in the other car, was killed. Cook suffered minor injuries.

Cook remains free on bail. A telephone number for him could not be located Monday.
