Driver Sentenced on Homicide Charge

A driver found to have drugs in his system during a 2009 fatal crash has been sentenced to 11 years in prison.

The Monmouth County prosecutor's office says 31-year-old Vincent Laing of Eatontown was sentenced on Thursday. He was convicted in May of vehicular homicide and drug possession charges.

Authorities say on June 24, 2009, Laing was driving eastbound on Route 33 in Neptune Township in when his car left its lane and crossed over three lanes before it collided head-on with a westbound car driven by 82-year-old Inge Polly of Neptune.

Polly was pronounced dead at the scene, while Laing suffered a dislocated hip and a broken wrist.

Prosecutors said Laing had several medications in his system.
