NJ Detective Up for National “All-Star” Award

Mostly everyone at the Voorhees Township Police Department already consider Detective Dennis Ober to be an all-star and now the whole nation might get on board.

Since 2006, America’s Most Wanted has been rewarding the men and women in the line of duty for their services to the public. Each year people can nominate someone they feel goes above and beyond to get the job done.

Ober was nominated for America’s Most Wanted All-Star award. He’s been with the VTPD for 15 years and has worked as a detective for eight years.

Before becoming a cop he worked in the N.J. prison system and the federal bureau of prisons.

If he wins, Ober along with seven other finalists will be in the running to win the grand prizes -- a check for $10,000 and an all-star weekend at the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series All Star Race.

A few other local emergency responders were nominated as well.

Lieutenant Don Kerling, Jr., a firefighter from the Lower Alsace Fire Company and Ramon Caraballo, a Detective at the Muhlenberg Township Police Department. Both are from Reading, Pa. are in the running to become finalists.

The final round of voting is this week and it ends on April 11 at midnight. Votes can be cast online or via text message.

The winning finalist will be announced on an episode of America’s Most Wanted on April 17.
