NJ Crash Sends Car Airborne, Careening 300 Feet

Two young men survived a severe rollover crash that sent their car airborne and careening more than 300 feet in Ocean County, NJ late Saturday night, but one was seriously injured, police said.

Police were called to the area of Route 37 and Colonial Drive just after 11 p.m., and when they arrived, they found a 2012 Chevy Impala flipped on its roof in the eastbound lanes of Route 37 just past the intersection. The Impala, driven by 21-year-old Eric Larson, of Jackson, had been traveling west on Route 37, apparently careened out of control and crashed head-on into the concrete divider on the highway, police said. The car then went airborne, flew over the divider and traveled about 70 feet before flipping onto its passenger side and rolling onto its roof in the eastbound lanes, police said. On its roof, the car continued to slide before finally stopping 320 feet away from where it first struck the median, according to investigators.

Larson, police said, was properly restrained at the time of the crash and refused medical treatment. His passenger, 22-year-old Taylor Bromberg, was also properly seat belted, according to police, but suffered severe injuries to his abdomen. Bromberg was taken to Community Medical Center in Toms River, and his condition was not known, police said.

Police said the Manchester Township Police Department’s Traffic Safety Section is continuing to investigate the one-car crash.
