Police in southern New Jersey are investigating the drowning of a baby in a bathtub.

Bridgeton Police Capt. Michael Gaimari says the child died Wednesday after being left unattended in a tub with the water running. He says the child's mother was trying to revive the baby when an emergency crew reached the apartment.

Gaimari tells The Press of Atlantic City the case is being investigated by police, the Cumberland County Prosecutor's Office and the state Department of Families and Children.

No charges have been filed.
