Murder-Suicide in Mantua

Authorities say a man killed his estranged wife's boyfriend and then himself in a grisly murder-suicide late Sunday afternoon at a Mantua home.

Stephen Newcomb, 45, was shot as he was coming down the stairs of his apartment on the 1000 block of Tristam Circle around 3:40 p.m. Police say Michael Targett, 52, shot at Newcomb five times.

Targett then got inside his pick-up truck parked near the apartment, sat inside for a few seconds, then walked to a nearby wooded area and turned the gun on himself, according to investigators.

Both men were pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say Targett and his estranged wife were in the middle of divorce proceedings. She was not home at the time of the shootings.
