Rappers' Lawyer Faces Murder Sentence

A New Jersey defense attorney who represented entertainers and rap stars was set to face sentencing Monday on numerous counts including murder and racketeering but the sentencing hearing was delayed.

Paul Bergrin's clients included Queen Latifah, Lil' Kim and rappers Naughty By Nature.

He was convicted in March on more than 20 counts. The government contends Bergrin used his law practice as a racketeering enterprise that trafficked in drugs and engaged in witness tampering, prostitution and the murder of a potential witness.

A judge last week rejected Bergrin's motion to have his convictions reversed.

Bergrin, who once worked as an assistant federal prosecutor, represented himself at his trial this year and in an earlier trial on two murder counts that ended with a hung jury.

He has been in jail since his arrest in May 2009.
